I wonder where Judy Blume is now? I spent my youth reading her books. And Beverly Cleary...I mean, Ramona and Beezus! I never had a sibling but I always imagined it so vividly through the words of these women. These days I don't have time to read much for pleasure, but I did recently re-read a book I would suggest to everyone, especially young entrepreneurs. How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie. This book was written 80 years ago and every word rings true and applicable to this very day, AMAZING in and of itself. The title can come off or sound a little smug...I mean who sets out to read a book with such a title? Well lots, MILLIONS SOLD:) And with good reason. This book will help you succeed both in business and your personal life. This book will teach you new interpersonal skills, with memorable examples and stories while reiterating and affirming basic social skills and cues that you don't even realize you are using (or should be) everyday. It brought important life skills to the forefront of my mind. Reminded me to be a leader and encouraged me to achieve my maximum potential. In this wonderful age of technology, which I take full advantage of everyday, I encourage everyone out there, to freshen up their interpersonal, REAL people skills. It's refreshing and feels good to speak and engage with people face to face. It's not a lost art yet, but I think that focusing on not letting it become so foreign is very important. And although I love all that this information age has brought and allowed me to do, I am so happy to read a book like this and sit down with people (friends I've won and influenced:)) and shoot the breeze or talk shop.
